TIL There are mini truck garden contests in Japan
The “kei” trucks are barely larger than city cars. The goal is to build the most aesthetically pleasing garden in the truck bed

@Vann I like to think of it as having a garden where my heart can take me
@cypnk I love this!!
@cypnk
I miss my old kei-truck.
@cypnk these are amazing
I went to a thai restaurant in NYC about a week ago that had a full sized maple tree tree growing through their back room - trunk was almost three feet (90 cm) across
@Satsuma There’s a charm to bringing full-size nature closer in that’s just not possible with anything artificial
There’s no proper substitute for an actual tree
@cypnk yeah especially somewhere like NYC where you more or less don’t see trees that large (I’m sure theres some in central park, and a few of the other larger parks, but not just found naturally) so it was far more surprising to see
The tree made an excellent dinner companion
@cypnk Dekutora meets green punk 💚
@cypnk These would get so trashed in most communities in the US 😖
@bthall Well, there’s a different sensibility there, for sure
I would also say (and this is controversial) the US has a violence crisis. I don’t mean what we see in the news, but some communities are fundamentally broken
But I would also say bringing nature back to these communities would improve them significantly
@cypnk Nice competion... I like gardening too.
@cypnk wow. wow. wow. the japanese nerd in me is ecstatic. thanks for sharing <3
@cypnk that's neat
also somehow both encouraging and dissapointing in the "oh hey cool even without a yard I can still have a garden, wait but I still wouldn't have a yard" kinda way
