Working on PeerTube federation support! Mastodon & Pleroma support is pretty much finished (had to simulate remote follow since this is a localhost instance)
cc @Chocobozzz
@Gargron Good idea!
@dansup @Chocobozzz Fantastic work. I'm really excited to see where this will go!! 🙌
@dansup @Chocobozzz How will federation with masto/plero work? Will users on pixelfed only see media-based posts for remote accounts they follow?
@afarian @Chocobozzz Yes, videos will use the thumbnails and link to the remote post!
@dansup @Chocobozzz So excited to see this in action! This is potentially huge.
@dansup I look forward to being able to follow myself on :pixelfed: ;)
@dansup @Chocobozzz will we be able to connect our pixelfed account to a pre-existing account on mastodon or Pleroma too - like some sort of auto-poster, if we wish to activate it (taking, again, example from IG itself)?
This way we wouldn't need to remote boost ourselves. Maybe?
Sorry if this is impossible or just weird to ask. I am just a user. :3
@eloisa Is that really necessary, though? Crossposting is an artefact of incompatible networks -- I'm sure anyone could easily write a bot or service to auto-boost content from specific accounts. Several probably already exist. Since you can boost it as native content, wouldn't that be better than posting it only as a link?
@trwnh anyone? sorry. No. I can only write poetry and posts. It's a matter of accessibility and spoon saving for me. Thus me asking for it.
@eloisa Ah, not "anyone" as in "every person in the world"! I meant "anyone" as in "some random person that exists".
@trwnh ok, so... Would you be that internet rando for me, plz?
@eloisa i can't really code, either, but when i wake up in 8 hours I can try to look up and see if something already exists! i've seen bot accounts that auto-boost e.g. a hashtag or a rsndom follower, so they have to be using *something* to do that...
@trwnh oh! That with an hashtag would be awesome, exactly what I needed! Thank you for your help!
And goodnight!
@dansup This is very cool! I was talking to other horror hosts this past weekend about PeerTube. Most hosts are fed up with YouTube's bots so it's pretty likely I might start an instance for my host community in the not-too-distant future.
@dansup Please make it so search engines don't index your public pages for remote profiles!
