I'm still struggling to come out to my family, the longer I put it off the harder it is.

Almost ready to just group text them πŸ˜…

@maloki Yeah, reached out to my bestie and am hoping she will be by my side when I tell them, and she will clap back hard at any negativity. She is amazing 😁

@trwnh lol, they would just think its a prank. Nobody in my fam is expecting this.

@dansup
Why not? Don't make it harder for yourself as it is. You've done the difficult part by accepting your singularity. They'll accept this part of you as they love you. They might just need some time to adjust that's all. Sooner you'll tell them, sooner your own stress will pass. Next step, hand in hand in public πŸ˜‰πŸ’Ÿ

@dansup it's hard, but it's worth it. When I was 19, I came out to my family about being bi, and having a trans partner. It was difficult at the time, and they didn't really understand where I was coming from, or why I am the way I am.

It was not without strife. I'm dating a cis woman now.(a mom, in fact), and my parents still don't really understand the sexual enigma that is me, but they at least accept me, and want me to be happy. That's all I can really ask for, and I don't feel the need to keep some part of myself a secret.

@sean @dansup I was about to post my own coming out story, but I paused and realized that I never did come out to my parents. They found out by catching me in bed with another guy that I invited over when I was 16 I think.

The truth is exactly as Sean said. They may not ever understand it, but so long as they're accepting of you, isn't it all that really matters? I'm grateful to say that my parents treat me no different.

@dansup I don't think I would have ever taken the initiative, but when my boyfriend at the time and I bought a house together, it seemed a little silly to keep denying it πŸ˜…

@dansup this seems a bit like #pixelfed federation all over again!

* better late than never
* will come out when you're good and ready
* difficult/challenging but everything was better once it came out

@dansup do you have a sister you can talk to at first? She could then be some kind of moral support.
