Upcoming Instagram changes warn users to accept activity tracking to "Help keep Instagram free of charge" 🙄

@dansup probably pay for it if they didn't steal all my information and use it against me.

@dansup *snorts* support businesses that rely on ads. As if any of those so called "businesses" that rely on ads were ones that I would want support in the first place.

@dansup Not sure why Facebook cares so much. For larger advertisers, this change matters quite a bit as it will forcibly change their marketing strategy, but for smaller advertisers, there's already a workaround that still allows tracking events. The difference between the two is the limit to only 8 trackable conversions per website, instead of a previously unlimited number. It doesn't protect user data as much as it limits the number of actions on a website advertisers can track.

@dansup Tracking activity outside of Instagram? It's the good old handcuff strategy: first make your product essential to a lot of people, and then push things they would never have accepted in the first place.

@dansup I would prefare to
pay a social media flatrate
and get anonymous access to all content,
without adds, cokies and no data collection. (just dreaming)

@dansup translation: "block activity tracking if you'd rather pay for services than have your privacy violated"

@dansup God I wish they just just made it paid and hope nobody uses this abomination ever again

@dansup well its a valid point, if there no product to pay, your the product

@dansup Would so much rather pay a small fee than get stalked across the internet 🤦‍♂️

@dansup even if you needed to pay to use Instagram, that wouldn't make you their customer. You are and always will be the product being sold. Your time, attention and well being is the product that Instagram sells to its customers, the ad companies and data sponges.

@dansup I am looking forward to clicking "No" on so many app prompts in the next month. Fun fun fun.

@dansup "If you're not paying for the service with your wallet, you're paying for it with your privacy"

@dansup the obvious response that I hope someone makes is "so I can pay to not get ads?" 😂

@dansup And most people will agree just like they agree to everything else.

Your chart is ready, and can be found here:

Things may have changed since I started compiling that, and some things may have been inaccessible.

The chart will eventually be deleted, so if you'd like to keep it, make sure you download a copy.

Dear Instabook User,

Thanks for using #Instagram, you can help keep Instagram free of charge by killing #smallBusinesses you love, killing your entire family and then killing yourself.

*Heart symbolz and smiley faeces*

@dansup The way that's phrased is pretty wild.

"Please let us continue to track everything you're doing on your phone."

I really need to find a decent Pixelfed instance ASAP.

@dansup i ALWAYS want my ads to be personalized to me! Always looking for more insecurities for capitalism to project onto me 😌😌
