Ngl, a few days ago I was considering giving up on @pixelfed
Seeing all the hate and negativity regarding my pf.soc Threads announcement really hit hard
Now I'm more focused than ever on our mission, and building better privacy and safety tools to empower users
Mountains of achievement rise from the valleys of hardship
@dansup @pixelfed Your project is gorgeous. You are awesome. You brought a very nice brick to the #Fediverse with #Pixelfed. It remains your project. If people disagree with your choice, they can hard fork and move. Stay safe, take your time and some rest, and keep getting pleasure working on your stuff
You will always find haters and upsetting morons, but you will also find loving people behind you.
@dansup @pixelfed thanks for your efforts with Pixelfed, Dan.
I know it's Threads federating and not Instagram, but if that experiment goes well and someday it's Instagram that's federating, I would seriously consider taking my Instagram account and hopping aboard Pixelfed instead.
More than any of the other ActivityPub services, Pixelfed and Firefish were what made me realize I wanted to back the federated future because those two services really brought home the diversity of options that decentralized social media makes possible.
@dansup@mastodon.social @pixelfed@mastodon.social I’m so glad for your work on bringing such a beautiful software into the Fediverse, it even become my new home from Instagram, so I really hope you can stay safe from the overwhelming pressure and even hate you’re likely receiving
Regarding Threads, I do consider Meta criminals with no good intentions coming with any of their products, so I’d personally chose to stay safe from them. However this doesn’t make the need to connection that many people have less legitimate, they should have the freedom to federate to Threads as well. This makes the account migration feature extremely important since it allows users to choose for themselves without being forced to stick with decisions being made on their instances
