Dan York @danyork

One of the things I like most about is being able to write in - I wonder when someone will hack the code to support markdown.

Suddenly I am visualizing an instance just for markdown geeks... (and everyone else would wonder why they are seeing *asterisks* and _underscores_ in updates)

@danyork I don't think that'd be an overly difficult patch. Ruby has the amazing Kramdown gem after all

@danyork Well, we are talking open source software. We can imagine exactly the situation you describe, but the change being effective for everyone ☺

@Lomig Indeed! The power of open source.

. @danyork No need of /markdown/ to _understand_ the meaning of slashes, asterisks and underscore.
Markdown has *reused* them, but the were preexisting.

@asr Absolutely! That's indeed the beauty of markdown. You don't need to do anything special to "use" it. Just keep doing the things that many of us have found ourselves doing.

@danyork @bortzmeyer@gougere.net
By the way, why does tusks don't reply to author AND toot_booster ?
And why do we have to type the full qualified tooter if it is already in our tootlist ?

@asr I'm afraid I don't have the answer to the first one. On the second one, you need the fully qualified name just as you would for email. BUT... I've found that in the web interface to Mastodon just typing @ and the name will let me easily enter in the fully qualified name of the others.

@danyork Yes, it is also my opinion AFAIK. The web interface is far better than any available application.
Sure some of them will be improved with the success of the whole network.

@danyork I am glad SOMEONE likes Markdown. (remembers old MovableType days).

@danyork Yeah, I've shifted to /slash/ for emphasis, which seems visually cleaner. I do miss me my Markdown.

@danyork Adding markdown to microblogging may cause some really weird UX issues with composing content, considering that all modifiers for markdown formatting would negatively affect the character count.

@deadsuperhero Very true on the negative effect on the character count. I guess after so long at 140 characters, I'm relishing the 500 characters. (And naturally, immediately finding ways to fill them up...)
