Things I learned last year:
- PHP and JavaScript for web applications
- Python for AI and Machine Learning
- Rust for very performant software
- Go for networking software
- Vala for GNOME apps
- C is still relevant as long you keep it simple
- C++ is slowly becoming the FORTRAN of our age.
@darkghosthunter Actually all these languages can be used to write GNOME apps
@vala_lang Well, I wouldn't try to use Go or Rust, but I would pick Vala over anything else for GNOME exclusively.
@darkghosthunter it's kind of funny; i have a colleague who insists that Rust missed it's window of opportunity, and with C++ 23, there's no reason to ever use Rust
@rasmus91 @darkghosthunter I don't think I've ever heard folks speak with fond admiration (or love, even!) for C++, except maybe forgetful reminiscing.
Respect, sure. A sense of necessary devotion and inevitably, yeah.
But not the sort of joy I see from Rust folks. C++ isn't going anywhere, but I think Rust is going to be just fine.
@darkghosthunter Python for web applications! I love me some #Django
@jack One plus for that. How your servers' fire going?
