Any other people out there on the Fediverse, or people into Viking re-enactment? Or just using those serk patterns?

I've mocked up the body of mine, but it feels *way* too big pretty much all over. I'm not sure where I've gone wrong - all I can think is that I've started the gores far too high for my figure. I know it shouldn't be close-fitting, but I don't think it should be bunching up around a belt either.

I guess I could just undo the gores, tack the side seams to about where I thought the gores would normally start and see if it still fits properly through the torso.

I was trying to avoid too much pulling through the back though.

(I've also just realized that I've done the front wrong, because it's meant to be a keyhole neckline. I haven't hemmed the back neckline yet, so I think I was waiting to get that done first. Necklines are a pain though.)

So, tips from another SCAdian on FB...

I have the body panels too wide, most likely. And I need to fit the sleeves and underarm gussets first, *then* worry about fitting the skirt. The gores are probably going to start at my natural waist or a little bit above at worst.

I knew I was doing it wrong somewhere. But ughhh, sleeves...

@dartigen You are giving me flashbacks to my late 90's/early 00's SCA days and I suddenly really wish I had all my old blacksmithing tools again...

@emerican Ha! I wish I'd gotten involved a lot earlier, I would've had much longer to get all of this stuff together (and a better sewing machine). Though, I'm told it's a grand tradition to finish your garb in the car on the way to events.

I haven't gotten deeply into Arts & Sciences yet, but I've been considering trying out some blacksmithing if a workshop ever comes up. At the moment I'm looking into knitting, nalbinding, and possibly drop-spindle spinning. Maybe weaving in the future.

@dartigen I learned blacksmithing when I was 16 years old by going on a website called the Armour Archive and printing a bunch of stuff out on my high school computer lab printer on the downlow. There weren't even such things as internet videos back then, really, so it was a LOT of trial and error... It must be a totally different world, now, and I'll bet they're making some amazing stuff nowadays!
