@david_ross What's the difference between FF Focus and FF Klar? Never really got into all the different Android browsers, so I'm a bit puzzled. Both are called "the privacy browser", soo …?

@rixx they are exactly the same thing. There was a problem with the Focus name in Germany.

@david_ross Ohh, due to the newspaper? Urgh how annoying. So Focus is not available in Germany?

@rixx I'm sure there are ways to obtain it as a tester. πŸ˜‰

@david_ross Hmm, gitlab.com/fdroid/rfp/issues/2 says focus contains analytics which Klar doesn't have, and Klar has a default of telemetry off, where Focus has it on by default.

@rixx I don't have a smartphone so not followed these to the level an answer really needs.

I'm hesitant to base decisions on these based on last year. Firefox is proud of having most privacy based settings available to users via prefs flags. Still - significant changes are taking place.

Work is happening Q3 on privacy UI on desktop. "Turbo-mode" from Rocket is influencing current Focus dev. GDPR is having wide impact on default policy too. Klar is latest implementation of policy.

@davidross @rixx Alternately, you can look into the Tor browser if privacy is your concern. Whether you are a migrant fleeing a blood-thirsty dictator or a freedom advocate in a police state, Tor can be your friend. +1 for human rights.

@david_ross I was reading that web pace but it's not clear what the difference is between focus and klar. Could you elaborate on that?

@loke as I'm explaining to others, I'm of the understanding they are the same product with specific user market targets. Firefox Focus is the global name, and Focus is a protected brand in German markets - so Klar was the choice there.

Subsequently Klar implements policy things more recently and specifically EU focused. Rocket (Phillipines market) has a turbo-mode that strips all js for example to enable low data bandwidth page reading.

Is that helpful?

@david_ross that was very helpful. Thank you.

Perhaps the web page can be updated with this information?

@david_ross I'm trying it out now. Scrolling is a bit weird. It scrolls faster than I move my finger.

Is this intentional? I think I might actually get used to this, if it's intentional then it might actually be a good idea.
