Do you like #Mastodon ?

Probably you would love #Matrix too, it's decentralized like Mastodon but it's a replacement for instant messaging apps (like #Whatsapp #XMPP #Telegram #Wire #Signal etc), chat rooms (like #IRC #Slack etc) and VoIP (like #Skype #Hangouts #Ring etc).

Matrix basically is a protocol, like e-mails, and it's explained at matrix.org, read the FAQs, are really interesting).

Apps can implement Matrix, the best client is #Riot (riot.im), available for Web and mobile.

Beyond the impressive statistics of new accounts, I would love to know about these stats, which may give a different picture:

* How many _active_ accounts (ie. who connected more than just a few times say over one day or two then never connected again)?

* How many _participating_ accounts, active and with at least one toot?

Would be interesting to get this stats at least from a few instances so we could try a rough interpolation of the rest..

@aircooledcafe I'm planning on having a tablet layout, but it's not very soon in my priorities. If someone else wants to work on it and contribute the changes as pull requests to Tusky's github I would gladly accept, though!

Some Mastodon instances with higher security TLS configurations are not working in Tusky on Android 7.0. This is due to a regression in its system SSL library—fixed in Android 7.1—where the only supported elliptic curve is secp256r1.

As far as I know, there isn't anything that can be fixed on Tusky's part, aside from shipping its own SSL library, which is too big an undertaking.

Sorry to folks who can't use the app because of this.

Trying to read about some of the protocols OStatus is based on. Lots of dead links. Salmon, portable contacts (poco), lots of draft pages. No wonder everyone implements these things differently - finding the correct documentation is actually pretty hard.

I wrote an article about some of the protocols underneath StatusNet, and I plan to write more in the near future.

I might not understand this thing... but can't I run a bridge server that exposes a Mastodon instance where all users are mapped to Twitter users, allowing you to follow Twitter timelines from here?

Would that get banned from mastodon.social, @Gargron?

It would be of course opt-in-by-following, no federated timeline.
