I mean, I don't currently do gift baskets, but you know... it's such a peculiar idea, that I just HAVE to think about what a gift basket from a programmer would be.

Code?

Stickers?

Something else?

flash drives, @doctormo, everyone loves niche flash drives

@doctormo Aren't stickers mandatory already? (plus I have this free spot on my laptop for a nice sticker, isn't that an incredible coincidence?) 😇

That said, I would go for a dedicated splash screen (+ the already mentioned mandatory sticker, of course) 😋

@doctormo I was answering your question re what a dev gift basket could contain. But, if I was to get an Inkscape sticker, I would proudly put it on my laptop.

Beside a browser, LibreOffice and, more recently, Emacs, Inkscape is one of my most used app & one that convinced me I could switch to GNU/Linux.

(can't contribute code back or time either, but I made a donation and it may also be possible I'm one of your Patreon, albeit under a different name than this one 😉)

@yaglb Ah well, which sticker would you go for, if you could choose?

The default trademark, one of the drink themed stickers, one of the about screen themed stickers or something else?

@doctormo Depends the intention when using the sticker. I would go for the official icon because it seems to me the most efficient way to promote the Inkscape 'brand' but I have a soft spot for brightly colored stuff too. So, I really don't know ;)

@yaglb

This is the generic sticker from Inkscape. It's aluminium (aluminum)

@doctormo I am fine with either aluminium or aluminum worry not, I am French :P

(and it seems to look nice, btw)

@doctormo Stickers aside, I take the opportunity to tell you that, as a user, I think each release has been so much better—and what I see coming for the next releases looks so promising. You're all doing an impressive job, thx.

@yaglb Thanks Yal!

All I need now, is to reach a million Inkscape eyeballs to get some more support and make this damn thing sustainable! Ah if only I knew some celebrities! 😅

@doctormo I know none, alas. But what you need is a producer, or screenplay writer, and have Inkscape featured in a scene in one of those Netflix/Amazon series—the hero(in), saving the day using Inkscape, drawing some cool stuff, and that dude passing by that goes, like 'hey, what's that cool app you're using?' and the other looking lovingly at the screen 'This? But this is Inkscape. Don't you know it?'. *Bam* overnight planetary recognition 😋

@yaglb It should be in one of the new marvel movies. Maybe Iron Lad can make his first suite in Inkscape and a CNC machine.

@doctormo That being said, don't bother or waste any money for that, at least not for me. I like using Inkscape, with or without a sticker on my lid 😋

@doctormo This is one reason I suggest to not use Patreon. These "goodies" are often distractions from the work being funded and not even very important to the people providing the funding.

@be You won't find any goodies on my patreon.

Which is actually great for my tax complexity. No sales tax.

@doctormo
A good solution is to mention the patreons in the "About" section of the software itself. I am sure you can automate this task :)

Merch stuff is mostly crap made in china and not very eco and human friendly....

@pocketvj This makes sense and I think if I ever did make merch, it would be made by me, or say for stickers somewhat much more local like LustreCal.

As for the software itself. Inkscape is a charity. So the community controls what goes into it as a consensus. One day I hope we'll get to the point where paid development isn't such a dirty idea. But people are rightfully, extremely cautious about mixing project decisions with business ones.
