i slept for 23 hours
oh ok htop itself is using 2% cpu at that speed (normally 0.1-0.2 for me) and when it's in the background the terminal emulator's cpu use drops
so it must simply be rendering all those characters so fast, bc it is all text i suppose
i set htop's sample rate to the fastest and, well, now my terminal emulator is using 30% cpu BUT it's like i have a VU meter for everything my computer is doing
i can see the very brief like 80% overall-cpu spikes when data streams in bc i have 100mbit internet, and more and less complex parts of videos and stuff.
htop is already fastr by default, at (i think) 1.5 seconds but. 0.1 seconds is smth else wowie
