We kinda miss it for more than just nostalgia, tbh. Having the circuits relatively isolated without system control made it more secure from potential misuse by hackers and stuff.
But then we wouldn't be able to use "sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y && sudo shutdown now" to automatically update our software without it being left on all night, so... mixed bag?

@dosnostalgic I remember some of the PCs at school still doing this with *Windows XP*! I guess they'd been upgraded again and again for a decade or so...
