Official version from Cyberabad commissioner of police: 10 policemen took 4 accused to scene of crime to recover material objects (power bank, cellphone, watch). At the spot, accused attacked police using sticks, stones and sharp objects. Two accused took weapons off two police officers. Firing followed and continued for 10 mins. When it stopped, police realised 4 accused had died of bullet injuries and two police officers had non-bullet injuries. Incident took place between 5.45am & 6.15am
There are reports that the spot at Shadnagar, where the veterinary surgeon was abducted and where the encounter took place, has people thronging to it. The policemen involved, including the commissioner, VC Sajjanar, have been "showered with flowers". Apparently "hundreds of girl students" from a college in Vijayawada celebrated the news by dancing in praise of Telangana police.
A few politicians have suggested that the possibility of human rights' violations should be ignored because the public wanted the blood of the accused, and accompanied this opinion with #democracy. Bowing to majority opinion is not democracy. That's populism. Respecting individual opinions and the human rights of the individual (particularly when they're threatened by a collective) are integral to the idea of democracy.
