I'm stuck trying to get access to my tape drive / tape library from within my FreeBSD 11.1 jail.

Via /etc/devfs.rules on the host, I have set allowed the jail to see the devices:

$ ls -l /dev/pass8
crw-rw---- 1 root operator 0xb6 Dec 16 16:48 /dev/pass8

$ sudo tapeinfo -f /dev/pass7
cannot open SCSI device '/dev/pass7' - Operation not permitted

The same command on the host succeed.

Note also:

$ ls -l /dev/pass7
crw------- 1 root operator 0xb0 Dec 16 16:48 /dev/pass7

(the original message had an ls of a different device).

@dvl Beyond my current expertise but first thought is, does some service need a restart?

@sillystring I tested that just now, by rebooting the jail host.

Still can't access devices the jail can see.
