The Samsung SmartTV has the following attributes:
1. It turns on WifiDirect by default on device poweron.
2. It maintains a blacklist/whitelist
3. ...by MAC address
4. ....and whitelisted devices have administrative access with no further credentialing.
So...anyone capable of sniffing traffic can forge the authorized MAC and do whatever to the device.
This is -stupid-
not joking here. serious post. if it becomes impossible to block ads at some point i'll just end up browsing the web like stallman does, furiously tapping the hook switch on a 1950s bell telephone to approximate V.32 9.6 kbps frequency/phase shift keying, with the telephone's audio output connected to one of those seismogram plotters. this will give me a paper copy that i can annotate & peruse at my leisure (ie write in the data in pencil, mark the start of packets with a highlighter)
Prediction: Mastodon will likely outlast Twitter.
Historically, decentralized, open-source platforms and protocols with any adoption run forever, even if they rarely reach the popularity or cultural relevance of centralized platforms.
It seems likely to me that when Twitter eventually shuts down, people will still be running Mastodon instances.
Did you know Diaspora has 328 active nodes and 17k users? Hell, there are 3,652 active FidoNet nodes, and that started in 1984!
So... am I wrong?
One last thing I like then I'll shut up tooting about the toot-tool: I threw in $3/mo to maly.io because I like having a stable server and people seem cool around here.
And if at some point I don't like what's going on, I can take my experience (and my money) elsewhere. Can't do that in the other places.
great proof that anonymous, pseudonymous and "anonymous == bad" are... not well understood by even the cyber security media. lol
I always imply ownership in the event of a dildo
