It is starting! ”[Lindt] announced that it will shift its Canadian chocolate supply from U.S. factories to European production facilities to circumvent additional duties.”
@edbilodeau in this particular case, I'm willing to bet that this also leads to an improvement in the quality of the product we see
@djfiander I will perform extensive testing and promise to report back! :)
@djfiander @edbilodeau I like Lindt chocolate (much less sugary sweet milk chocolate than most of their American counterparts) so I'll be disappointed if it disappears off the shelves. And still, I support the move 100%.
@croyle @djfiander @edbilodeau It won't disappear. Right now, we apparently get half from Europe, half from US. (per article) So now we get all from Europe. Right now, with all the lowering of standards in the US, I'd feel safer not eating anything produced in an American company, on top of I don't want to support American manufacturing.
@djfiander @edbilodeau I'm pretty sure that EU and US production are different.
@lizzard @edbilodeau aside from the differing expectations of European vs American consumers, EU food regulations are far stricter, so, yeah, I'm hopeful.
@lizzard @djfiander @edbilodeau I have had Kellog’s cereal in France. It is real food from the same American company.
@Doeshecook @lizzard @edbilodeau European instant coffee is also apparently actually good.
@djfiander @Doeshecook @edbilodeau not if you compare it to European actual coffee ;-)
@lizzard @Doeshecook @edbilodeau Well, of course not, but compared to North American instant, and even a lot of NA commercial coffee....
@djfiander @edbilodeau I know that UK Cadbury's licensed to Hershey's in the US tastes like Draino. It's disgusting. Nothing like the original.
@edbilodeau
Good!
European chocolate is demonstrably superior to American chocolate. Here are the receipts:
https://www.buzzfeed.com/michelleno/european-chocolate-vs-american-chocolate
@edbilodeau So Lindt is punishing Canada for Dumpf doings.
@irisRichardson @edbilodeau dispo Did you read the article? It doesn’t seem like it.
@irisRichardson @edbilodeau What? Why?
@irisRichardson @edbilodeau No, they are trying to protect Canada from the American insanity. Plus, we already get half from Europe anyway (per article), and I would trust European manufacturing more than American under the current US admin's "anything goes, no more restrictions" policies on safety and health.
@edbilodeau Makes sense as Lindt & Sprüngli is a company from Switzerland with large production in the EU. And the EU and Canada are connected by the CETA trade treaty: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comprehensive_Economic_and_Trade_Agreement - so I imagine more companies will follow.
@edbilodeau Good for Canadians !
European chocolate has way higher standards.
@edbilodeau Makes sense.
@edbilodeau stock price up 20% today
@edbilodeau
So does that mean the chocolate in Canada will start tasting good?
@edbilodeau This is how it started after Brexit - lots of companies opened operations in EU countries to circumvent the problems brought by Brexit (including LOTS of red tape as the UK became a third country).
@edbilodeau
I'm buying some Lindt dark chocolate on the way home.
@davidarnell @edbilodeau Haha i thought the same!
@edbilodeau And it will continue.
@edbilodeau Bravo #Lindt
#Aachen, Produktion hochfahren !
Ok, send more! We like it!
@edbilodeau Canadians love Lindt!
@edbilodeau Oh my gawd! Lindt is my favorite. That means the price for Lindt supplies setting in storage and on the shelf in stores will shoot up. Going to get some 2 day.
All those idiots moving companies and plants and business to #mairikkka are so stupid
Do they assume this round of firehose economic warfare will end and there will be 3 years and 11 months of stability for them?
If so, #darwinawards
The last 48 hours were such a clown show.
- The stock market taking a huge dive Monday and then again yesterday morning.
- #BigHands' 2-hour incoherence speech
- a very very strong BC provincial budget
- Trudeau's very very strong speech
- Even before #MoscowDon spoke last night, others in their government were blinking and saying we can maybe negotiate the tariffs
We have to destroy this man, defeated shamed humiliated and mocked. There's no compromise. End all the tariffs.
@edbilodeau
Juhuuu....Jobs being created in the EU and CH §8-)
@edbilodeau I wish they cared just as much about child slaves picking the cocoa beans they purchase.
Haven't bought Lindt for years, so this is good news for me! European chocolate, even the "cheap" stuff is far superior to the US chocolate.
@edbilodeau "Lindt...currently produces 95% of its U.S.-sold chocolates within its 5 US factories. These facilities also supply the Canadian market...the company is taking steps to shield its Canadian business from the effects of these tariffs...
At present, half of Lindt’s chocolate sold in Canada originates from the U.S., while the other 50% is imported from Europe. The company’s new strategy will see all Canadian supply transition to European production sites...
I'm really not a #prepper, but our H-E-B had a coupon for 20% off Lindt, and I may have stocked up a wee bit.
My QP really likes the new dark chocolate strawberry Lindor truffles.
Brilliant! And as a bonus it means it won't have American dairy products in it.
@edbilodeau nice. send in the clowns...
True American patriots support Trudeau on this issue over the felon sex offender and his S African Nazi crony.
Lindt chocolate is delicious, especially the milk chocolate hazelnut (the bars and the balls). I saw they make pistachio too and I can't wait to try that!
@edbilodeau Canada won't be the 51st state, but the 28th
@edbilodeau
Ah great - good excuse to enjoy their chocolate. I'll wait until they've actually made the shift though, or nearly finished doing it.
@edbilodeau If you find a pipeline full of Lindor please let me know; just saying...
