The ad industry is moving away from the anonymous profiling that cookies enabled, and is planning to demand email addresses and other personally-identifiable information instead. This would be a step backward for users.
@eff wouldn't ephemeral email addresses combined with fake personal data for every different account a user creates on such a website act as a deterrent in this occasion? If UUID2 relies solely on email addresses (or mobile numbers, but who would ask for them?) as an identifier maybe advancements in burner email services could provide a mitigation.
