There’s already backlash against #Threads on #Bluesky.

They’re not happy about it. The oxygen has just been sucked out of the room.

I understand where they’re coming from. They thought AT protocol was going to catapult over
#ActivityPub. And now Threads has chosen ActivityPub.

How things change in the space of three months.

@atomicpoet @fediversenews could it also just be that Threads is an awful app (it is). Also, most Bluesky people don't even care about the protocol lol.

@atomicpoet @fediversenews what they do care about tho is algorithmic choice. It's hard to go back to a feed like Threads when you can have the highly custom feeds on Bluesky.

@ekana@mastodon.social I've legitimately tried to use Bluesky more often, but I just can't find anything worth reading and the algorithms aren't helping me. Mind you, I prefer reverse chron over everything else.

@atomicpoet that's fair the culture is different although plenty of intellectual people post often over there but the vibe is definitely more casual.

I for one can say that the custom feeds have been incredibly helpful in chatting with other black users. Someone set up a feed called Blacksky and I've made some very nice connections there, a real community. And some people have made some very funny hyper specific feeds as well. Overall it's just nice having more flexibility.

Interesting. Without knowing much about BS and not being on there, I always figured this was their killer feature that would hand them success. So interesting to hear positive things about it. It might be the case that BS doesn’t die but grows more slowly a little like the fediverse. I still suspect we underestimate the ability of things to just persistently fracture.

Otherwise, BS’s mistake right now, it seems, is in not working out a way too have opened up sooner.
