Working on a cool space project (launching soon! 🚀) and noticed that @firstname.lastname@example.org's file manager puts checkered backgrounds on transparent rocket images automatically! Nice touch.
Having a proper "perfer dark" preference is something we'd like, but doing that in a non-hacky way is a ton of work.
For example, you need to make it opt-in for apps, to avoid glitches like illegible text. You need to make sure non-GTK apps, websites, etc. can access the preference. You need tooling for developers to test with both dark and light, etc. etc.
Changing the system stylesheet is a hack, not a real solution and should definitely not be be exposed in system settings by default.
2019 was a big year for elementary. Read about what we accomplished, plus what we're up to in 2020! https://blog.elementary.io/our-2019-in-review/
A file manager should be good at managing files, and increasingly people who care about files on elementary OS also care about version control. So it’s a good match!
@email@example.com gives me so much joy. Now I can easily see the git status of the files on a git repository. Features like this one is what makes elementary so nice to work with. Thanks a lot @CassidyJames@twitter.com for the suggestion and to those who worked on the PR. 😀

What is your favorite #protip for elementary OS, i.e. a favorite feature or shortcut?
Check out this nice little new feature in the Welcome app for elementary OS 5.1 Hera: touch gestures! You can use a two-finger swipe on the trackpad to jump between pages. https://youtu.be/BEInJhlkGN0
elementary OS #protip: Having trouble seeing something small, or just want to focus on something during a presentation? Hit ⌘+Plus to zoom in, and ⌘+Minus to zoom back out. See these shortcuts and more by hitting the ⌘ key on its own.
elementary OS users: we need YOUR help! Yes, YOU specifically. We have a community-run support site at http://elementaryos.stackexchange.com. However, our small mod team can’t keep up! 😰 If you could take a couple of minutes answering or clarifying questions, it would help immensely. Thanks!
elementary OS #protip: search for app actions in the Applications Menu! For example, quickly open straight to an incognito browser session by searching for “incognito”. Create a new Calendar event with “event”. Check for updates in AppCenter with “updates”. And more!
Hello world! I've been a software developer for nearly a decade and I'm a huge proponent of FOSS.
Mastodon first impressions: I need to find some relevant follows. My subreddits took years to curate and I fear this may take nearly as long.
