Is there an open standard for sharing book highlights like Amazon’s proprietary Kindle highlight-sharing system?

@englishm one major problem to solve is... how do you specify the book you're quoting from / where to get it?

@riking Yes, definitely! I’m thinking that some kind of fingerprinting a la MusicBrainz plus a database that collects “editions” under “works” like I think LibraryThing still does (for print books, at least), could be built to support something like epubs.

First though, I want to see if there’s a way I can automate the liberation of my Kindle highlights.

@englishm i believe web.hypothes.is is open source? But I don’t know how much its a standard vs a program

@englishm
I would hope that Web Annotations can be used for this. Hypothes.is has experience with sharing annotations and highlights across HTML and PDF versions of articles.
