Mind the gap

“They pay to publish their own papers AND to read them!”
One of the best articles I've read so far on FB's #metaverse: "Facebook can claim originality in at least one thing. Its combination of scale and irresponsibility has unleashed a set of diverse and fascinating sociopolitical challenges that it will take lawmakers, scholars, and activists at least a generation to fix."
I am deleting my Facebook-account this month, and I want to publish a post for my FB-friends to explain why, and link to some resources that present a more detailed view of all the different problematic aspects of Facebook (ideally one webpage that summarizes the issues of data collection, surveillance capitalism, mental health etc). The Wikipedia-page "Criticism of Facebook" is so far the most complete collection I have found, but are there anyone here that have any other good suggestions?
In a huge victory for human rights, the European Parliament calls for a ban on biometric mass surveillance and facial recognition. 😀🥳 Let's keep fighting for privacy! 💪

The 8-hour workday is too profitable for big business, not because of the amount of work people get done in eight hours (less than three hours of actual work done in 8 hours) but because it makes for such a purchase-happy public. Keeping free time scarce means people pay a lot more for convenience, gratification, and any other relief they can buy. It keeps them watching television, and its commercials. It keeps them unambitious outside of work.
I promise that there's no intimidating physics equations, and mostly friendly graphs and figures :)
Yesterday I presented and defended my master thesis in “Computational Science: Physics” at the Physics Department at the University of Oslo. The title of my thesis is "Deep learning to estimate power output from breathing."
I have tried to condense my work into a short blog post. If you're interested in deep learning and/or sports science, it might be an interesting read.
