Also take a minute to read an obituary article (linked in the above) about Dianne Odell, who spent 58 years living in an iron lung. Because of changing communication technology, she was able to graduate high school, attend college, and write a book. (Her dad worked for the phone company and set up an intercom connected to the high school so she could listen and attend classes.) articles.latimes.com/2008/may/
