i'm slowly scrubbing the remainders of this identity off the web. When the end of the year comes, i will purge this account as well. I'll refollow those I find interesting, but i will give no references to this identity i had when i do. Those who need it will figure it out.

In general, i will abandon the addictive and manipulative dumpster fire that the web has become, i've spent too much time on it.

i'm tired, time to touch some grass, lay down and leave the world to burn.

someone posted a video of a procedurally animated isopod on twitter. so I put the Green Hill Zone music on it

so gnome 42 landed, theming is gone altogether and the default "new" adwaita is as bulky as ever. guess i'm switching DE's again. i only went to gnome for its suite of productivity tools, that's all switching to gtk4 so no theming anymore which means decorations that take 30% of your laptop screen, and excessive whitespace. Maybe time to check out the dark side (kde/qt)? I never liked kde's layout, it's like a child threw it together on an afternoon

my jaw is on the floor horrified at these people who got bionic sight implants from a tech startup that went out of business and now can no longer see because their eyes are obsolete and unsupported

So this video is much better than it has any right to be. Long because it actually covers the subject. Highly recommend.

climate, webdev, rant, looking for something else

I hate my web developer job. No time for unit testing, no time for documentation, no time for creativity or nice algorithms.
Just use whatever trendy JS {front, back}end framework, ship high bandwidth, heavy, soulless sites in no time.
The mere consciousness of it from my colleagues are jokes between two crypto bs talks. The climate catastrophes ahead are literally a joke to them.
I hate that I contribute to this and I want out.

Does anyone here have experience going from this kind of job to a more engineering-focused, ethical one? Tips? Interesting reads? I'd love to hear about it!

Boosts are appreciated!

yall remember project Ara? the modular smartphone that Google killed? well, there's a new kid on the block who's absolutely beating the shit out of a trillion dollar corp from his garage

Newer homes and furniture burn faster, giving you less time to escape a fire

Research shows that 30 years ago, you had about 17 minutes to escape a house fire. Today it's only 3 or 4 minutes.

i'm trying to build an application on top of it and it's such a badly designed protocol, with half the stuff handwaved, lots of overspecified features that really should be user-defined metadata, lots of underspecified details or just straight up not described at all, or described in some Nth document somewhere which i can't find because nothing links to them

Holy crap y'all birdsite just locked my account for "promoting self harm" because I was joking with a #linux user about becoming root and shooting one's self in the foot.

Whiskey tango foxtrot Twitter? I've appealed their decision. I'm sure I'll get shot down, but I've gotta try, this is mother fucking ludicrous.
