make public transit FREE
@falgsc The one good outcome of the whole diesel emission cheating scandal here in Germany was that there now actually is a discussion about phasing out such cars by making public transit free and improving it
@elomatreb @falgsc thats very good because this could lead to cheaper electric buses for the other countries too
@MightyPork @falgsc Possibly, for now it's mainly focused on regular buses (which still is a huge improvement).
Ironically, most German cities had effectively electric buses for a long time: trams. But most of them were stopped/built back during the 1970-80s
@elomatreb @falgsc hmm we also have trams, well, in two cities. there used to be trolley buses but they're now mostly a thing of the past.. with the cities growing so fast, those systems can't keep up
@MightyPork Yeah, but IMO buses are only a first step because of their flexibility, if we actually move away from car-centric cities trains and train-like systems will be the backbone and buses will only/mainly be needed to service the rural areas
man this blew tf up masto is lit
