Deleted my personal Facebook account yesterday. I have to admit it feels a little strange — I had it for 12 years and it made it easy to keep in touch with old friends on the other side of the Atlantic — but it's been a long time coming.
@fgraver I haven't done that yet- but almost never put anything there. I think the algorithms have long since prevented anyone I once kept in touch with from seeing the links to my blogposts that I do put up there. (and I haven't written personal posts in a while)
well done you 🌞
@lauraritchie As new years resolutions go, it was a no-brainer :D I've been thinking about it for a couple of years now, and so far my only regret is I didn't do it sooner...
@GeoffreyGevalt You know, in the beginning FB was dialogue for me. I signed up in 2007 and immediately reconnected with old friends I had not seen for several years and for several years the only thing I used it for was real communication with friends who lived far away. Had it stayed that way, I wouldn't have left...
@fgraver FB was extraordinary at the beginning. My daughter was on it in 2005, when it was just an Ivy League thing, and it had a profound impact in class (which I observed) in helping her & other first-year students get to know each other, build trust & reach a level of discourse in the classroom not possible, so quickly, without it. I called FB (curious mind) & spoke with everyone not named Zuckerberg. They were excited, filled with a desire to do good. And then $ happened.
