Hey Mastodon fronds
I'm getting close to a technical implementation of the NZ Mastodon Project.
There'll be legal stuff to do after (CoC, ToS, insurance), but, it's getting to where it's feasible.
To do this, to make this work, I will have to charge money. Can we have a frank conversation about what's reasonable here, what's viable, what's even sensible?
My opening thoughts are NZD$10/mo.
What are yours?
It's really weird looking at the old stereo system my family had back in the 80's, with the speaker hookups that were just bare wires we had to jam into holes, and also they didn't even have always on microphones with permanent connections back to entirely unaccountable multinational corporations who don't pay their fucking taxes. Primitive AF.
All @haiku kernel memory is now W^X.
@mararm Another big browser - Microsoft Edge - moved over to adopting Chromium. Now there's only really Webkit (Safari on iOS and Mac) which Chromium Blink was originally forked from, and Firefox's Gecko/Servo left as browser engine competition. Firefox is more isolated and vulnerable because now there's a bigger risk even more web developers will say "we just test on Chrome" / "just use Chrome" / "can't every browser just move over to Chromium cos it would make our lives easier".
That's right kids, @firstname.lastname@example.org memberships are now open!
We'll be working hard to make Aotearoa the best place in the world to work in tech. Come help us make it happen. 💪
