ok so i have to close this one and just use the one on aus.social

honestly can't stand any more "OMG THE MWF " articles any more. The writer's festival is more open, a bit different and not just people sitting on a panel and talking at people. What's wrong with that? What is seriously wrong with that? I used to be excited to go, then I got bored, and now I'm excited again. Surely you want people to GO TO THE FESTIVAL

also i cannot believe i am the first person to raise this - where is the raising obvious issues department?

i’m not mad i’m disappointed

no actually i am quite cross - who do I yell at to get this changed?

and why do any admins need to read people’s dms anyway? that’s really basic - if you’re building a social network that replaces the shit ones - surely that is one of the first things you would build into it

ok the argument that twitter can read dms as well doesn’t fly - as far as twitter is concerned dms being kept private is a key part of their business model - for mastodon rando admins it is not - mastodon (whoever that is) needs to fix it/change it otherwise it is not going to work - you cannot “sell” non private dms to people on twitter and expect them to come over - do not toot me

so it seems the privacy issues on here are going to be its undoing - if admins can view your dms and so on its not going to work

knock knock

oh god tell me parody accounts are banned as well please - i will never leave

@jonkudelka sorry jon but there is only one cartoonist allowed at a time - you wait back on twitter and i will let you know if they are able to make space

@firstdogonthemoon They get banned, or if they make a server then the server gets banned, it's so good.

There are a couple security risks inherent to this platform:

1) When someone follows you from a different instance, the admins get access to all your toots and DMs.

2) Anybody can impersonate you by joining a different instance with your username and claiming to be you.
