Does anyone know if there's a list of news bots for here? I'd quite like to get breaking news into my feed, was thinking of writing something but don't want to reinvent the wheel.
So it's decided: I'm gonna leave my current job. I just can't take any more of this toxic politicised environment with mob practices.
Anybody knows of any interesting openings for a system/embedded software engineer? I'm in the Silicon Valley and appreciate flexibility.
A boost would be very welcome! Thanks!
Does anybody here know #kubernetes really well? I've been stuck on a stupid problem for the last day or so, and kinetic pattern hair loss is setting in.
I have a config map, manually created. This is good. But how do I automatically create the config map when Kubernetes first spins up and starts deploying pods?
Yay!! The book is an actual thing now!
If there's ever a widespread 'Confluence' breach, there will be -so- many credentials to people's devops infra exposed...
One of the #hidiot tutorials teaches kids morse code. I wanted to give them an exam in the form of a scavenger hunt, so I built morse code clue beacons that go inside kinder egg capsules. I'll do a full tutorial to build our own including power saving code once we have the Kickstarter tutorials finished.

Follow up story:
A mentor was working on something he found interesting that everybody else thought was not valuable. That small bit of esoteric technical knowledge was later reused in a seriously impressive exploit.
He said this to me about it, "we don't need to know where the lock for a key is to recognize that a key is valuable."
For me the hardest part of making a Mastodon bot was figuring out the OAuth dance to get my access token.
Twitter offers a UI that does this for you, so I made one for Mastodon! It works on any instance, but it does require you to run a `curl` command (that it generates for you) at the very end. Hope you find it useful!
There are a lot of new Mastodon instances now than there were this time last week.
And just chill out with your fellow Mastodon admins.
Just had a brief flash of "I'm a social washout, my life is shit, why do I bother, I don't know what I'm doing, I'm never going to a con again."
The older I get the more socially awkward I get, I've noticed. I don't know what happened or why, but my brain is increasingly unable to process social cues.
It's frustrating. What happened to me? I don't know.
I've spent 18 months working on an open source hardware project anyone can build and launched the Kickstarter today. We're almost fully funded on day one! If you're thinking of getting a #hidiot I'd really appreciate it if you could help us cross the finish line and back us today. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2072712581/the-hidiot-card-sized-electronics-learning-for-eve/

✨ It's live! My start to finish guide for getting your own #mastodon instance up and running with Docker on Ubuntu 16.04: https://github.com/ummjackson/mastodon-guide/blob/master/up-and-running.md
I've tested this on both Vultr and DigitalOcean and the instructions should be pretty much copy/paste for everyone. Hope this helps some people! 😀
and while I'm talking about books and technology training materials, I wrote a thing. blindseeker.com/AVATAR
Have you ever wanted to build your own VM lab? or know someone who wants to break into IT? Blue team? Red team? and needs to know how to stand up their own? Check out the book I wrote.
I just posted on twitter about Chris Sanders Investigation Theory course. If you're blue team, or you manage a SOC, or want to get good or teach others to get good, go take this course.
Hello friends, I'd just like to interject here for a moment.
Eugen needs money to live, and mastodon.social has server expenses, but money doesn't write code by itself. There's still 183 open issues on the Mastodon project github.
Writing a code patch to fix a problem or work in a feature helps not just mastodon.social, but also everyone else running Mastodon, too, and you'll have @Gargron's gratitude, and all the other devs' too.
