I love that all urls take 23 characters of your 500 limit, regardless of actual url length. This means there's absolutely no need to use url shorteners on masto. I bet this isn't widely known, so let this be a #tootorial for you.
@stevelord out of interest, what’s with the gopher resurgence?
Birdsite pile in on #tmobileat CSR who may lose her job. Meanwhile on masto just one comment about vice coverage. Keep it up masto, you guys are alright
Does anyone know if there's a list of news bots for here? I'd quite like to get breaking news into my feed, was thinking of writing something but don't want to reinvent the wheel.
Does anybody here know #kubernetes really well? I've been stuck on a stupid problem for the last day or so, and kinetic pattern hair loss is setting in.
I have a config map, manually created. This is good. But how do I automatically create the config map when Kubernetes first spins up and starts deploying pods?

Yay!! The book is an actual thing now!

If there's ever a widespread 'Confluence' breach, there will be -so- many credentials to people's devops infra exposed...
One of the #hidiot tutorials teaches kids morse code. I wanted to give them an exam in the form of a scavenger hunt, so I built morse code clue beacons that go inside kinder egg capsules. I'll do a full tutorial to build our own including power saving code once we have the Kickstarter tutorials finished.

For me the hardest part of making a Mastodon bot was figuring out the OAuth dance to get my access token.
Twitter offers a UI that does this for you, so I made one for Mastodon! It works on any instance, but it does require you to run a `curl` command (that it generates for you) at the very end. Hope you find it useful!
There are a lot of new Mastodon instances now than there were this time last week.
A gentle reminder to the fledgling #Mastodon #admins to sign up for the mailing list, so you can stay abreast of releases, instance-breaking bugs, and community issues.
And just chill out with your fellow Mastodon admins.
Just had a brief flash of "I'm a social washout, my life is shit, why do I bother, I don't know what I'm doing, I'm never going to a con again."
The older I get the more socially awkward I get, I've noticed. I don't know what happened or why, but my brain is increasingly unable to process social cues.
It's frustrating. What happened to me? I don't know.
I've spent 18 months working on an open source hardware project anyone can build and launched the Kickstarter today. We're almost fully funded on day one! If you're thinking of getting a #hidiot I'd really appreciate it if you could help us cross the finish line and back us today. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2072712581/the-hidiot-card-sized-electronics-learning-for-eve/
On the subject of coding, here is an excellent way to get in to Ruby.
Quirky, but excellent all the same. #Ruby #programming

✨ It's live! My start to finish guide for getting your own #mastodon instance up and running with Docker on Ubuntu 16.04: https://github.com/ummjackson/mastodon-guide/blob/master/up-and-running.md
I've tested this on both Vultr and DigitalOcean and the instructions should be pretty much copy/paste for everyone. Hope this helps some people! 😀
Good luck and feedback appreciated!! (cc @Gargron / @TonyNof / @david / @vielmetti / @lmorchard )
Hey! If you want to install Mastodon on ubuntu trusty, my ansible roles are now a bit more templatized & complete. They are also in a github repo for easy cloning & editing:

PRs welcome, of course.
