Here's how to stop X from using your posts to train its AI:
Stop posting on X
@flargh Exactly.
@flargh I wonder what kind of vile garbage an LLM trained on X posts would be producing anyway, and it makes me sad for humanity
@flargh It kills me a little every time I see a pundit decry X Formerly Twitter while continuing to use it on a daily basis. If the people who don't like Musk just stopped using it, its cultural relevance would wither in a matter of weeks.
I get it, it's a business thing. But the same argument is made by fiscal conservatives who don't like Trump but vote for him anyway because it means they'll benefit financially. People need to grow a goddamn spine, now more than ever.
@disky00 I gave up on Twitter after Musk bought it and made a conscious decision that if my livelihood depended on its use, that I needed to do something else for a living. No regerts
Or keep using X, but only post things like "Elon is an idiot", "X is a Nazi bar", "Teslas explode", an other fun things so that their AI is trained well.
@BigAngBlack @sccook @flargh It would surely be evil for me to encourage someone to do such a naughty thing.
@mookie @BigAngBlack @sccook @flargh
If anyone wanted to know more about how this might be done, they could start here:
https://www.lakera.ai/blog/training-data-poisoning
Presumably so they could alert Musk to the danger, and certainly no other reason that I can think of.
@flargh Deactivated my account there a while back.
@flargh whereas in the fediverse your posts are in a public timeline available to any AI that wants to subscribe...
@flargh Let's say stop posting on Twitter - as that has the added benefit of annoying Musk by calling Twitter, Twitter.
@flargh U+1D54F - The Platform formerly known as Twitter....
@flargh Your mental health is better without Twitter or X tbh.
@halfbloodprice honestly if we're talking mental health here get off social media and touch grass
@flargh Or post stuff they don't want in their AI.
@flargh I was chased off the ol' bird app several years ago after having the audacity to go on a minor quiz show as a woman. This was all pre-Elon so thankfully that nonsense has mostly passed me by, but I'm always staggered to find out it's still going.
Surely there's nothing to be gained by being on there at this stage? It sounds horrendous.
Must be one extreme right wing psychopathic mechanism they will be creating. The worst possible view of mankind ever…
@flargh exactly this. I really struggle feeling sorry for people who actively choose to sponsor nazis.
@flargh I just put my account to private and disabled "gronk". Also I did not post there since over a year. I just do not want my old name there lost. I still hope one day Twitter will get freed of manchild elon.
@flargh twitter, it is called twitter, musk does not believe in name changes for people, so not allowed for his software.
@flargh ALSO stop using Reddit, they're using it to train Google's AI. Stop using Google. Stop using Youtube.
Alternatives: Lemmy, DuckDuckGo, Proton Mail, Vivaldi, Librewolf, FreeTube.
@flargh I've done that from over a year ago :)
@flargh Don't feed the muskoxen. Toot with the Mastodon instead. The more you toot the better you feel!!
@Ponygirl beans beans! they're good for your heart!
@flargh What about the years of historical tweets? Unfortunately, they're still using that in their training dataset
@flargh almost every second card slot on X is an ad now, I'm not into that.
@flargh Did so the moment EM bought the company. Never looked back.
@flargh Posting in gibberish on X will really confuse the Ai bot!
@flargh I finally disabled my account this week. I support everyone to get the heck off that corrupted platform.
@flargh
alternatively only post total rubbish preferably dialogically I guess
I've not seen any analysis of what it's like to actually use Grok AI.
But I can imagine few things worse than a large language model trained exclusively on content from X. How absolutely terrifying.
@flargh absolutely correct.
@flargh It wouldn't be a surprise for me if they (not just X) were using Mastodon and other Fediverse posts as well. But, surely, there are more people, sadly, so they focus on getting training data there.
@flargh
Ah yes. It's that easy to move from your support networks, your friends and other connections who have already chosen to stay there. In no way is it stressful whatsoever to enter unfamiliar grounds and see absolutely nobody you previously knew.
[Sarcastic, btw]
You clearly haven't lost contact with a healthy circle.
