Imagine you could have picked any time to be born and any place to grow up.
Which year would you have picked? The past? The future? Where would you have wanted to grow up?
Do you ever feel like you're living at the wrong place in the wrong time?
Imaginary places/settings and times totally do count!
@veer66 Let's say you could. Any setting is valid.
@fribbledom I want to be in a rich family, when I can talk to Gautama Buddha, (not Bodhisattva).
@fribbledom I want to be where I speak the same language as Gautama Buddha too.
@fribbledom Honestly, I like when I was born and where I grew up. I might have chosen to be born 4-5 years earlier, but not much more than that. I would have been a teenager in the late 80s and early 90s, and I'd have been able to get in on the late-90s/early-00s tech bubble before it burst.
@fribbledom I absolutely need to live in a time and place that has Internet and indoor plumbing. If I didn’t, I might want to be a rabbi’s daughter in Caliphate Spain, or a minor wife of a Tang nobleman.
I can usually also find appealing places to live in space operas. Usually well away from the action.
@fribbledom i'm not really sure if there's a specific different time/place where i'd like to have been born, but "whenever the most ideal possible society has been achieved" sounds like a good approximation
also maybe being able to choose what my body looks and feels like would've been nice
@fribbledom
300 years on the future. Either I don't exist at all, or I'm a spacetime pioneer
Personally, I would have totally helped Doc Brown build that time machine. Who's this Marty you're talking about?
Also, I'd of course be the son Captain Picard always wanted.
I'd be Barney Rubble, because let's face it, Betty's just the cutest.
In all honesty though, I think I'd like to live in a time where humankind as a whole has grown up and we've discovered alien life forms. Those two events might be interlinked even.
@fribbledom well that’s barney rubble then because ancient aliens are real
Haha, I completely forgot those later seasons with the Great Gazoo.
@fribbledom great gazoo built the pyramids
@fribbledom Honestly I just want to go back to the when all like, france and america were securing their republics, and tell all those rebels "Keep going - you've got the ball rolling on egalitarianism, keep the momentum going, please, for all our sakes."
@fribbledom
What about the doctor?
@fribbledom the Jetsons?
@fribbledom awww lovely drawing
@fribbledom Personally I think I was born at just the right time. I'm keen to help fix the challenges we face today.
And besides with my food sensitives (i.e. light allergies) I'm pleased to have grown up at about the same time we are starting to get over our sugar addiction.
@fribbledom Such an inspiring question. I love dealing with cards in my hand. I picked the same condition I had.
If I had another chance to live under the different condition, I would be willing to take that too.
@fribbledom the pokemon world. I don't even care when. Or a special version of the pokemon world where anthros exist. Or just a regular furry world tbh.
Any of those would be my pick. I am starting to get a increasing dislike my human flesh cage :/
@fribbledom
Be in my 20s in the 80s. Maybe not. Idk I just like the aesthetic
@fribbledom if I disregard all the trans stuff (I would like to have lived in a world where it didn't have to permeate every aspect of my life,) I would have enjoyed being a game developer in the 8-bit/16-bit era. Those machines are just so fun, and I would learn all their secrets and really make them sing. And I would work on the games I love so much, and they would bring so much joy to gamers everywhere. :]
Such a beautiful response!
@fribbledom if humanity and technological civilization survives climate change, maybe a thousand years from now. Or however far out one has to go to have cured death and integrated that into a stable society.
Or like northern Europe maybe a decade or two earlier than I was born. Nice weather, good music and culture scenes, still functioning social democracy & infrastructure build-out.
@fribbledom I think I was born 250 years too early.
@fribbledom a tiny bit earlier. Or the same, but all over again, with a note to self: "Go on the net, as early as possible, and join communities"
@fribbledom it's always difficult to answer things like that - I start with something simple like "It would have been cool to see NYC about the time my Grampa grew up, and see the city go from semi-rural in places with a chaotic mix of horses, cars and even steam engines on the roads to something more recognizable today" and then I realize wow, that place was MISERABLE and my chances of survival would be low.
But uh, growing up in The Shire in Middle Earth sounds pretty okay!
@fribbledom Can I pick a family?
