This quote applies to so many situations in life, not just programming:
"Every great developer you know got there by solving problems they were unqualified to solve until they actually did it"
-- Patrick McKenzie
@fribbledom it's hard to impress training-obessed managers with this fact.
@fribbledom Several times a week, I write about topics I'm unqualified to write about until I start researching them.
@fribbledom My best and most satisfying workdays are when I need help with something and the developer who has the knowledge isn’t around so I have to solve it myself.
@fribbledom My three tips to business success as a programmer:
- Bluff your way into a job you're underqualified for
- Make yourself indispensable
- Leave when it gets boring
@fribbledom I'm not qualified for anything.
I very much know that feeling.
@fribbledom This quote really resonates with me this week. I sometimes feel like an alchemist trying to understand organic chemistry.
But there will always be more problems, than "qualified" problem solvers. So just find an interesting problem and dive in. You're likely the only one who will.
@fribbledom yeah, like literally all of life. not to overreact, but god, this is exactly the kind of otherness attitude that makes the rest of humanity bitter toward a subgroup.
