Microsoft decide to increase the prices for Xbox Live Gold... but "regret" and reverse their decision just hours later:

"We messed up today and you were right to let us know. Connecting and playing with friends is a vital part of gaming and we failed to meet the expectations of players who count on it every day. As a result, we have decided not to change Xbox Live Gold pricing."

Someone must have noticed the huge reddit backlash 🤣

@fribbledom also, apparently you don't need gold to play online on free to play games?
@fribbledom thats so nicely illustrating how many companies use their knowlegde of markets etc. "oh, the user count is going up, so the demand rises, i guess we should adjust the prices".

company decisions shouldnt be based an a snapshot of time :(

@fribbledom wait till they realize they could have made more money and cultural goodwill from multiplayer games and dlc/microtransaction sales had they just priced it sanely to begin with

its like the streaming "originals" bubble. one of these days they will push their subscriptions costs so high that releasing their own original content on competting streaming services makes more money than the surge of new subscriptions if it were a platform exclusive as planned

@Aetous @fribbledom Xbox Live Gold has been the same price for 10 years. It is probable it was priced pretty sanely for its original time

They could have just been attempting to adjust for 10 years inflation for all anyone knows

@fribbledom "failed to meet the expectations of players" is a funny way of saying "we got burned because we were too greedy"
