I like the term "Fediverse", because it's a portmanteau of "federation", "universe" and "diverse", and I think that describes it quite accurately ☺️
@clarjon1 @fribbledom I'm still working on a red, yellow, and green alts so I can be an entire squad of Fediverse Rangers on my own.
@clarjon1 @fribbledom Though, I'm closer to Shinesman in terms of ability. You know: Red, Gray, Sepia, Moss Green, and Salmon Pink Rangers.
In their original meaning, yes, kinda. The meaning of universe has become a bit more specific since then, tho. At least a "diverse universe" doesn't sound conflicting to me 😄
@fribbledom I'm pretty sure all the Black and brown folks who've been driven off by persistent racism and anti-blackness would strongly disagree with the "diverse" part, heh.
@virtualwolf @fribbledom
I guess I'm really lucky to be on a non toxic instance.
@fribbledom I like the term "Ad-verse" for the advertising hindered part of the internet, because the Fediverse is welcoming and the Ad-verse is adverse, which means in a contrary direction, hostile, opposed to, etc.
@fribbledom Indeed, it's smart and sweet.
Well, it is part of the portmanteau, but I'm not sure if there's anything canon or official in that context. I think I just made that up myself 😄
@fribbledom
It also sounds like the French expression "fait divers", which means "miscellaneous /a"
@fribbledom Just "grammatically" speaking the "diverse" is not really necessary to build the word 😉
@fribbledom I like it too :)
@fribbledom It's where you go to get fed a verse.
@fribbledom The diverse being absent is part of the joke, right?
@fribbledom Too precise.
@fribbledom Sounds like, if Fediverse weren't already in use, it would be a good name for a website domain. Spiders love names like that.
@fribbledom except that everyone i mention it to thinks im talking about federal law enforcement.
