@fribbledom Wow, they disclose their operating costs. That's awesome! I've always wondered why no one actually does that, especially people who are interested in soliciting donations...

@faoluin @fribbledom that's one of the reasons I really like open collective. If you're supporting anyone on there you can see all the transactions and how they use their funds. Love transparency.

That's pretty cool. They summarize Eric S. Raymond's "The Cathedral and the Bazaar" really nice in the last part.

But the links to the four big commercial dataharvesters at the bottom of the page seem a little off for an organisation with this philosophy...

@fribbledom
Source code for those who want to take a look(there's a lot of repos for various parts/serverices of Lichess apparently)

@fribbledom
unsurprising in a way

anyone so dedicated to a game
understands that a life worth living must be about more than acquiring a massive amount of financial tokens

so they don't worry about the little shit

@fribbledom how is lichess pronounced? like lich, lie or leichester?

@fribbledom im on fics… i first played on the older server, then fics in 1994.. :) but first game of chess i was 5 or 6., dad told me when i finally beat him he’d take me out to dinner at the restaurant of my choice. eventually went onto chess club and tourneys, but it has been too long! do you play often? freechess.org is fics’s site. they dont do any of that stuff either..
