Covid vaccines poll

Let's say you were free to choose your Covid vaccine, which one would you choose?

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom LOL where is Cinovac? Sputnic?

Covid vaccines poll

@faizalr

Sorry, can't create more than 4 options for a poll. Went with the approved, known, and popular ones.

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom

Actually I'd be happy to have a Cuban vaccine… in Cuba, between a mojito in La Bodeguita and a daiquiri in El Floridita.
🍸

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom you really aught to have a none vote if only for people who were already sick

Covid vaccines poll

@fluffy

I think even then you may have a preferred vaccine.

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom I saw that you were not able to because of the software. That's too bad. Considering your unusual response: As a poll, isn't the point to see what others think?

Covid vaccines poll

@fluffy

Is it really unusual? Even if you don't need one *currently*, you may still prefer one of the vaccines over the other, no?

Whether you want one at all or not, that would be a separate poll 🙂

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom i don't know why you'd think that. is that something in the news? here is a recent study on the topic:

> Cleveland clinic study of 52,238 employees shows unvaccinated people who have had COVID 19 have no difference in re-infection rate than people who had COVID 19 and who took the vaccine.

https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.06.01.21258176v2

of course it is exactly as expected because immunity is immunity.

i am really interested why you thought previously infected and recovered individuals would benefit from being vaccinated. can you remember who said this the first time?

Covid vaccines poll

@fluffy @fribbledom The Delta (B.1.617.2) variant changes this a bit. It can escape immunity from the older variants, to some extent. Two doses of the Pfizer vaccine have been shown to be more protective against this variant than prior infection.

re: Covid vaccines poll

@fluffy @fribbledom I agree it would be better to have this option on the poll, but I've heard that vaccines probably protect more than previous infection, especially against new variants.

re: Covid vaccines poll

@guillaume @fribbledom there are many different things being said about the vaccines, it's sometimes hard to tell what is right

re: Covid vaccines poll

@fluffy @fribbledom Yes, it's definitely hard to tell, especially after the official institutions messed up so much with the whole aerosol and mask confusion. (Zeynep Tufekci is worth reading on this and the dynamics of information in general: theinsight.org/p/the-few-sente )

Anyway, the CDC cautiously recommends getting vaccinated even if you have been sick previously: cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/

re: Covid vaccines poll

@guillaume @fribbledom the american medical bureaucrats? isn't america the dead last place you want to look for advice on how to handle covid?

re: Covid vaccines poll

@fluffy Oh no believe me, they're not as bad as Sweden. Here they were saying masks were useless until December 2020, and they aren't saying anything about ventilation, aerosols or anything. You still see people walking around with a face screen but no mask, which would only work against large droplets, because of that bad communication.

re: Covid vaccines poll

@guillaume someone once told me sweden was doing really well. i guess that was a bunch of months ago

re: Covid vaccines poll

@fluffy It was doing well in the summer 2020. It also didn't do badly compared to places like the US or some European countries, but it was much worse than in other Nordic countries. My understanding is that it's related to culture and low population densities. People are more likely to live alone, are physically less close, and are more likely to follow recommendations.

re: Covid vaccines poll

@guillaume what did you mean then about sweden doing a bad job? it sounds like the outcome of "best" was already decided for them by the circumstances

re: Covid vaccines poll

@fluffy There were much more infections and deaths in Sweden than in other Nordic countries that were in very similar circumstances. They wanted to protect the economy but that also failed compared to their neighbours.

Look at the deaths for example: ourworldindata.org/explorers/c

re: Covid vaccines poll

@guillaume how are thing with the economy over there? are a lot of people out of jobs?

re: Covid vaccines poll

@fluffy I don't have exact data on this. I heard it was hit hard (which they wanted to avoid by not having any kind of strict measures), but now looking for information I see it's recovering surprisingly quickly: bloomberg.com/news/articles/20

brinknews.com/how-well-are-the looks like the best summary I can find.

As anecdotal data, I'm looking for a job now and it's hard, and I was told it was significantly more difficult than usual because of covid, but again I don't have numbers.

re: Covid vaccines poll

@guillaume it's fine, i was just asking in case you knew, since you seem to know a lot about this stuff. :senkoshock2: you don't need to go look on my behalf if you don't know offhand

re: Covid vaccines poll

@fluffy No worries, I thought it was interesting and I was curious too, since I only have vague knowledge by living here and hearing what people say.

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom I couldn't, but already started, so will continue with the choice made for me.

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom Already got Biontech 2 times.

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom I don't have a a preference. They all work. If I had the choice I'd probably go for Astra-Zeneca as a lot of doctors around here have left over doses since nobody wants it.

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom I live under 1000 rocks so I don't know much about them

re: Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom Early on I had kinda hoped for AZ since it seemed like that would be pulled from main rotation so I'd probably have an easy time getting a second dose. While I appear to have guessed right, I got Pfizer, so the second dose wait continues for me. If I had to just choose, probably would have gone Moderna, trade the slightly higher incidence and severity of side-effects for a slightly higher efficacy (well, from some reports at least), but I"m content enough being a Pfunk rather than a Mod.

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom anything but Astrazeneca, forbidden for young people in my country since they started to die after the shot.

Covid vaccines poll

@Napo @fribbledom that's a bit of an exaggeration, there's a slightly raised risk of blood clots for anyone who takes it but for younger people that risk is higher than the risk of them getting bad side effects from covid so on balance it's better for them to have a different vaccine

Covid vaccines poll

@wolfie @fribbledom I don't know if the vaccines came in bad conditions to my country. But I'm not exaggerating, people stated to die with Astrazeneca, it appeared on the news and they tried to say that it was people just being nervous, but it just happened with Astrazeneca.
I'm from Chile.

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom In Romania we were kinda free to choose, and I went with the Pfizer one cause it's marginally more effective than the Moderna one, and the Astra-Zeneca one causes brain hemorrhaging

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom
Surely it's impossible for anyone to make an informed decision...
- Very few know what's in any of them...
- Fewer still know the composition of all of them.
- And does anyone really know the efficacy of each to tackle all the Covid variants?

Covid vaccines poll

@mark

If you don't feel informed enough (or just don't care) to make a decision, you can always abstain from voting.

But even then, I'm sure most people have made up their mind at this point. Whether that's due to information, marketing, or hear-say is another discussion.

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom
:) I didn't vote - I consider myself uninformed.

I made the comment though, to highlight the concern about how people make decisions about complex things that they cannot hope to have a full understanding of.

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom haven't paid enough attention to be able to make an informed choice.

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom I heard the best stuff about Pfizer.

My dad works at "Johnson & Johnson" though, but "The Bleeding Edge" documentary shows much bad stuff about "Johnson & Johnson", which makes it hard for me to trust them.

Anyway, personally, my thoughts are if the rich do it. It is probably safe. They wouldn't inject everyone if it wasn't somewhat safe.

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom Would likely just use whatever they have though. I mean, the people I know are fine.

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom IDGAF - just juice me up already! So fucking sick and tired of worrying about stupid people being too dumb to wear their masks correctly 😫

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom
#Moderna is the only one I could feel ok with having indirectly purchased it. They're the only ones that are not using coercive force to prevent foreign manufacturers to create their vaccine.
All the others are criminals.

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom AZ or J&J for first shot and Biontech or Moderna as second basically: a vector one first and a mRNA second

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom Which one has Boss Metal Zone circuits in it? That one.

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom

You've been vaccinated before Covid vaccination started?

Please let us know, whether you ever discussed with your medic the producer of one of the used vaccines or the technical details or their production.

Or did you rely on your medic that the vaccine approved in your country and chosen by your medic would be an appropriate one?

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom

Uh, this topic know on TV in extra3...

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom

Not really representative and I'd expected less then 2 out of 8 people having discussed their vaccine before the covid vaccination.

But in the end it supports, what I wanted to write: the discussion of the vaccines at its best is cooked up and useless if not harmful for the overall progress of vaccination.

There are only very few people who do have enough understanding of the science behind the vaccination to discuss this, I believe.

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom well honestly, thinking about it more and reading a bit about J&J I'd take it (will probably even do), it's less effective but i take only one shot, i get that vaccine paper and don't deal with the mRNA thing which may or may not matter, i don't care

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom and be done with it

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom What about Sputnik?

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom
Nix davon. Ohne ordentliche Zulassung ist das Körperverletzung!

re: Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom
Voted for pfizer, but I would take the Vaxzevria over it one if it's still largely rejected once I get to take a vaccine - simply because damn why let it all go to waste

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom ich würde die super Kombi nehmen, also erst AZ, dann mRNA.

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom Any vaccine. Each has they pros and cons and I don't see the relevance of picking one

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom Already had the first dose Zeneca, waiting for the 2nd now.

Covid vaccines poll

@fribbledom I'd rather get whatever is currently available in the place I am and get vaccinated as soon as possible, this pitting them against each other thing just leads to confusion as barely science literate media spreads lies and hype

Covid vaccines poll

@wolfie

The assumption here is that all vaccines are readily available for you. Other than that, agreed.
