Oh my god I'm so happy.
So this weird xmonad thing I've been running into where a window goes in back was something super simple all along. The window wasn't going in back, I was accidentally forcing a window (via some rogue key-combos?) to _float in front_. But visually I couldn't tell it was floating.
I'm so happy to have figured this out that I'm talking about it to you. And you don't care.
