Up until today I thought when people called something "based" I thought they made a typo and meant "biased". I don't know how any of you keep up with new lingo.

My girlfriend got me my first ever turntable so now I'm giving up on all this digital music crap and I'll be spending every spare second crate digging and looking for rare imports. Later.

I'm exploring the idea of a 24/7 stream featuring music videos, concerts or home performances from independent musicians. People could upload their videos and get added to rotation.

If you're interested in this kind of thing and want to take part in any way, please let me know! Idea is still young, but music lovers who would want to maybe moderate uploads, or help reach out to communities to gain access to some content would be cool.

Plus, if you have music content yourself, let me know!

Are you a creative or advocate and need some help or want to offload a segment of the nerd crap that gets in your way?

I want to provide cheap help overarching design and research or routine. Here is the why and the what on this mutual benefit:

While I am a garlic farmer that makes angry industrial music, I am also a well spoken battle hardened veteran of IT, media, advocacy and the arts. I'd love to help creative and ethical folks in meaningful projects.

I'm wasting way too much time trying to build Liquidsoap. I've never touched an ocaml project before, and I can't say I'm enjoying it. I'm not looking to write the software, I just want to run it.

You know that weird trend that is super common in most documentary style video where they’ll show a brief shot that shows the producer, boom mic, backdrop, etc? I don’t really get it, it’s like they need to say “hey look at all the hard work we did to get this shot!”

Well I just saw a video where they go out of the way to show them clapping the slate but then they also go out of their way to blur out the contents of it. All for no reason.

Seems like Day 1 of Siemens' Open Source conference, that was powered by Owncast, went really well! It's so cool to see such large organizations using Owncast like this. opensource.siemens.io/events/2

When the iPhone launched, all the cool apps were on the desktop, and you had to live with shitty web apps on your mobile.

Nowadays all the cool apps are on the mobiles, and you get shitty web apps for the desktop.

One of my favorite Owncast-powered events is starting right now. NightFlight is a monthly party with a bunch of great DJs playing fantastic music. They really do a great job. It's a nice chill end of the week right now, but they really amp it up as the night goes on. Just like real parties used to do (if I remember correctly).

Yesterday’s Small is Beautiful video is now up on our site with transcript, captions and links to all the cool sites we mentioned!

Thanks to fun guests, @heydon and @gabek, and to the lovely folks who stayed for the studio afterparty 😉

@gabek We will indeed be streaming the full final ourselves, so everyone is more than welcome to join us for that. There will also be a drinking game, though for US folk it would be rather early. Still, it should he good fun!

Eurovision stuff

I just learned that Iceland won't be performing live because one of the members tested positive for Covid. I'm heartbroken for them. They've been SO CLOSE to having the opportunity to play on the Eurovision stage three times now.

At least they're still in the competition and they'll air rehearsal footage.

I just learned that the streaming service Peacock will be streaming Eurovision in the US, so maybe I'll just do a free trial of that. I'll also keep an eye on @jnktn_tv since they'll be watching it too.
