One of the best decisions I made was to deactivate those 'read receipts', aka blue ticks, from the IM apps that I use. Not only people stopped asking me for an answer right away but also I stopped waiting for other people's answers as soon as the ticks went blue.

I feel like I need to do this, but I'm stuck in the mentality of like 'oh I asked X to pick up some Y, did they read it or do I need to call them'. In saying that - communication skills!

@idanoo If it helps, my rule of thumb is: if it's an urgent thing (or it becomes urgent for whatever reason) I call whoever needs to be called right away and, if necessary, I send a message afterwards as a 'written record' of what needs to be done, otherwise I just try to keep myself busy with more important things at the time.

Thanks, that's actually a great approach. Just trying to swing out of that 'waiting' mentality.

@gadonias Figured I'd post an update, 2 weeks into disabling read-receipts and last-online flags. It's great and there's no looking back now!

@idanoo That's good to know, for what it's worth, I'm sincerely proud of you. You may enjoy reading 'Digital Minimalism' from Cal Newport, hopefully, it'll help you on your journey towards a healthier relationship with technology.
