Me, a year ago: "Man, I'm so glad Linux sound finally settled down, it's nice to not have to fight it all the time."
Debian: "HAHAHA we're switching to Pulse Audio."
Me, today: "WHY DOES MY SOUND STOP WORKING FOR NO REASON?!"
@alienghic Yeah, I remember muting some software recently and I suspect it decided to do something systemwide. Pavucontrol didn't seem to know about it, though, so π€·ββοΈ
Killing the daemon seems to have done it though, thanks.
@gamehawk I've been using MX Linux and haven't had any problems with that. 'pavucontrol' is your friend.
@TheOuterLinux Yeah, pavucontrol was all "eh, doesn't look muted to me" this time, but killing the pulse daemon did the trick.
@gamehawk
grumble pulse... Yes its buggy.
The things I've found that helps me pavucontrol exposes two mute buttons, one on playback and one on output devices. Somehow one or the other gets toggled. I frequently forget to check the other.
The other thing is when it fails to detect my USB sound card is to kill the pulse daemon owned by my user.
