Oh right, right, NYC mayoral debate is happening now isn't it
Inky has picked up the story, though they don't have anything really informative and just report on the birdsite reactions. https://www.inquirer.com/weather/record-wind-577-mph-gust-philadelphia-atlantic-city-national-weather-service-glitch-20210610.html
@gamehawk Hah. You piqued my curiosity :-) The ASOS is an aviation system, and its official output is called a METAR. Somebody... parsed something wrong? The correct METAR from the archive is "METAR KACY 102254Z 08013G20KT 10SM OVC017 20/13 A3000 RMK AO2 SLP158 T02000133=" - the 10th of the month at 22:54 UTC, winds from 080deg at 13 gusting to 20 knots.
@jgoerzen Yeah, NWS Mount Holly quote-tweeted it saying they didn't know yet why the source was occasionally throwing these wild responses (I think they said it had three of them). Implied it wasn't just the Twitter bot, but the source data itself, but I could be wrong.
@gamehawk I found another source for METAR history. https://www.ogimet.com/display_metars2.php?lang=en&lugar=kacy&tipo=ALL&ord=REV&nil=SI&fmt=html&ano=2021&mes=06&day=10&hora=02&anof=2021&mesf=06&dayf=11&horaf=02&minf=59&send=send There is a SPECI also at 2254Z that looks... corrupt. It looks like it got combined with some other airport's data or something.
