I actually marked on my calendar the next Weird Text Day, out of curiosity to see if they really did hit the pattern. And the next one came a few weeks early... but this time instead of being "who are you people?" type texts, it was a shortlink (Firebase dynamic link).

I didn't follow it.

Did the iPhone just come out with a new slo-mo feature recently? Or is it just a burst of use among Philly folks? Because suddenly my timelines are full of "slo mo seagull picking up a Cheez-it on the beach" and "slo mo passing standstill traffic on I-476" and 🤷

I'm seeing it on birdsite (local journos) and square-photo site (local crafters), all of a sudden. From people that miiiiight follow each other, so maybe everybody just remembered that feature existed, I dunno.

There is a children's book donation organization in Philly/South Jersey that has really been taking off, and one thing they do is put out wheelie bins to take donations. But to keep them from being mistaken for trash cans, they're painted... and they've really gotten serious about it. A couple were painted by a former student (Antoine Brown) of the organizer and they're pretty amazing. All four sides are different on each one.

(I'd link to the originals but they're FB-siloed. 😔)

This spam signs off with "Awaiting your prompt reverberation" and now I'm thinking about the person who could "vibe out to train" any time and whyyyyy is there an oscillation theme going on in the weird things spammers say to me?

Got a quarter of a tomato pie (the rectangular NJ/NY/PA type) at the grocery yesterday because they had ones from a good local bakery right at the front entrance.

Kid (tomato-indifferent): "why?"

Me: "Because *I* like them?"

Kid: *eats half the pie for a midnight snack*

Me: *surprised Pikachu*

And... we have tickets. It's the touring show, not Broadway, but have you LOOKED at the Broadway prices? 😬 💰

RSI has been acting up so I finally put on the wrist brace and it's much improved. It's also made me more conscious of how much I use my right hand for all kinds of things that require tight grip on tiny things. And I've tried to work on using my left hand for things like peeling back the foil on cat food pans and, uh, anyway I think I wore as much of the food as made it into the dish. At least I kept it off the (semi-washable) wrist brace. 😬

Toyota's really doubling down on their donations to Republican Congresspeople who supported the insurrection, huh?

This is a C64 demo for a *1541 disk drive*, and I'm just 😯. Even though I already knew that C64's drives were essentially computers with CPU and RAM, just the idea to use serial data/clock lines for video output is so incredibly AMAZING. So cool.

Like... isn't that making fun of the target market? And what do the folks in China who printed the packaging thing of it (and all the other weird kitsch we ship to ourselves on containers hips)?

(related: I keep hearing everybody say Brood X is over and either ours didn't get the memo or the fall (annual) cicadas are really getting an early start.)

Had to rewind my podcast because I absolutely heard the NPR sponsor spot guy say "sponsored by Hornt, a mobile banking solution" and I was like "okay I know Silicon Valley is full of edgelords but that doesn't even make sense."

(It was "Porte.")

I really did have my hearing checked recently and it was fine. Although maybe I should use headphones and not speakers when the clothes dryer and the cicadas are going.
