Is there a protocol for asking people to add content warnings to future toots about a particular subject? I mean, au pire, someone decides not too and I can then mute certain keywords or user accounts, but is it okay to ask people? I see a few awkward suicide references being used as analogies in federated timeline for totally unrelated subjects, and I'm thinking that that's the kind of thing I would ideally like seeing content warnings for? enfin, thinking/tooting out loud
@gersande depends on the person, i suppose. if they're using suicide as a punchline or something, or they are the type to act :sparkles: edgy :sparkles: or such, you might just not want to bother. but i suspect most of us are going to be considerate and use CWs if asked
@gersande i say just ask. i'm happy to CW posts if there's something going on i don't realize needs flagging/cw'ing.
I think we're early enough in this experiment that you can influence or set a starting point for what that protocol ought to be.
@gersande I haven't asked someone yet, but, yes, I think it is perfectly reasonable. They're _so_ easy that I'd be cautious of someone who reacted badly to a request. Good luck!
I mean, I guess what I'm asking is will people be compassionate about these kind of queries (no matter if they decide to use content warnings or not in the future) or react defensively or angrily? Cuz with content warnings your mileage may vary SO much even just depending on the kind of day you're having...
