Is it #introductions time again?
Hi, I'm Geoff (he/him). I've been here for a little more than a year, I think.
I take pictures. Some of the pictures are of cats. https://www.flickr.com/photos/giltay/albums/72157632849901410 #catstodon #mastocats
It’s a hot hot hot hot day in parts of North America. If you’re like me, your only access to cooling at home is something like a struggling window unit.
Libraries can be cooling stations if you can get to one. And they mostly won’t kick you out. They’re a place you can be and not buy anything. Keep safe if you can. 💜💜💜💜
A really good article about the history of journalistic terms like "racially charged", "racially tinged", etc.
We trust you have received the usual lecture from your local System Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things:
#1) Women, especially women of color and trans women, built the foundations of most of your digital life.
#2) Before you try to help someone with a problem, make sure they actually asked for your assistance.
#3) Others' needs are more important than your convenience.
i don't know who needs to hear this but
it is not the job of vulnerable marginalized people to deprogram the alt-right.
our ancestors, our grandparents, our parents, and now us have had our conversations and pleas for humanity denied and ridiculed.
our job now is to rebuild the communities we had torn apart and survive together.
white people out here thinking you're safe from harm are out of your minds, as if they won't start targeting class status, then curly hair, then glasses wearing etc
a random thought about organising
Unstructured organising favours existing informal hierarchies and is vulnerable to people fighting over social capital.
Consensus organising is vulnerable to people who realise they can wield power with blocking tactics - refusing consensus unless it’s on their terms.
Formal structure is vulnerable to capture by people who make a hobby of formal structure, and to people who use rules to excuse their bad behaviour.
Sufficiently accurate for poetry. There are cats.
