Is it time again?

Hi, I'm Geoff (he/him). I've been here for a little more than a year, I think.

I write for a living, at a certain large charity in Toronto. I'm in accessible publishing, but I really only have a toe in .

I take pictures. Some of the pictures are of cats. flickr.com/photos/giltay/album

I'd get mad about people stretching the definition of roguelike if I weren't too sad that it's too much work to get Castle of the Winds running on my machine.

Settling the "rougelike" debate

"Rougelike" means:

One of several different makeup products for for coloring the cheeks in varying shades

abolitionists will recognize this sentiment: reductionism is a form of violence.

there is no simplifying something as complex and unique as a human moving through the world. any effort to reduce a living being into a list of characteristics will inevitably fall short of the whole.

the existence of gatekeepers is damaging and ultimately violent to the production of community and solidarity.

i’ve said it once and i’ll say it again:
kill the cop inside your head.

violence, cops, Toronto, Dafonte Miller

Like, he spent a lot of time saying that he believed Michael was probably guilty, but the Crown didn't prove it beyond a reasonable doubt.

I wonder if that's something that could help with, say, a civil case against the Thériault brothers.

Just watched the judge's decision on the Dafonte Miller case because they stream these on YouTube now, I guess.

I noticed that, although the ultimate verdict was not guilty for everything except assault, the judge leaned heavily on reasonable doubt for those not guilties and explicitly said that he believed Michael Thériault probably committed aggravated assault and obstruction.

remembering that time in high school at the computer lab when I played a game of Windows 98 solitaire right up to the very last card, then I took a screenshot, closed the game, and made the screenshot into the desktop background.

people walking by ... just couldn't resist clicking. one time someone rebooted the machine because they thought it was crashed, and the look on their face when the solitaire game came back after a reboot was just perfect.
