We're really worried that this could affect services like ActivePub/Mastodon instances, opening them up to lawsuits or requiring expensive filters.

KDE is looking to employ a technical documentation analyst to revise and advise on improvements to KDE's technical documentation, with a special focus on documentation that will introduce new developers to the project.
All details are here:
I'm not happy with how the Wil Wheaton situation was resolved. An admin was overwhelmed with frivolous reports about him and felt forced to exile him. I've said before that I think it sets a dangerous precedent on how a large group of people can mobilize to drive anyone off the fediverse. Mob rule is universally dangerous: Mods and admins must examine evidence and decide based on wrongdoing and danger, and not on how many times someone was reported.

I have a Facebook account that I just use to manage a Page, with no photos or personal info. Now today due to 'suspicious activity' they want to confirm my identity, by uploading a "photo that clearly shows [my] face"... 🤨
The hardest part of using PGP, key management, doesn't scale well in large organizations. We solved this problem at First Look Media (where there are over 200 PGP users) with GPG Sync. We maintain a keylist, and everyone subscribes to it, so everyone has the latest public key for everyone else.
I'm excited to announce that we've submitted a draft RFC that will turn GPG Sync into an internet standard!

Don't let your Open Source get ##commonsclaused! Read about how the #CommonsClause restricts your software freedom. Despite the opposition's rhetoric, #FOSS *is* sustainable without turning it into proprietary software; it's what we do here at #Conservancy. https://sfconservancy.org/blog/2018/aug/22/commons-clause/
"The Commons Clause doesn’t present a solution for supporting #OpenSource software. It presents a framework for turning Open Source software into proprietary software [..] do the right thing - take this down" #FreeSoftware #CommonsClause https://drewdevault.com/2018/08/22/Commons-clause-will-destroy-open-source.html
"People copy stuff they like. They don’t copy stuff they don’t like. The more a work is copied, the more valuable it becomes. Value isn’t taken away by fans, it is added by them, every time they copy"... ♡ Copying is an act of love. Please copy. http://copyheart.org/manifesto/ #copyright #sharing #copyheart
Until now I forwarded re-tweets from Twitter to Mastodon. I disabled it now, because I think this re-tweets always looks quite disturbing on Mastodon. I post my own stuff on Mastodon anyway and if I see something on birdsite which is really worth sharing here, I will do the extra work and create a nice looking toot manually.
