It will be interesting to see how the community will react this time.

This came up before and the community objected to it. Now it is back for some reason. No public discussion as far as I have seen.

@lichen It's quite sad really how Mastodon's project lead is more concerned about the networks growth than about the people that are already here.

And what troubles me the most is that there can't just be an opt out option for every feature there will be, because that will lead to a configuration page harder to comprehend than Facebook's.

@hay I agree, indeed. Customizations/opt-outs would be the only way to make it more digestible to me, but as you say won't probably happen. I hope that forks of mastodon (or pleroma even) with a strong community drive will succeed. I've seen some very interesting efforts in that direction.
