There’s so much misunderstanding in Mastodon written down by @LanceUlanoff in mashable.com/2017/04/05/mastod that I wonder what we could do better to explain the distributed web.

Yes, you can follow people on other nodes, yes you’ll have a more complex username bound to a node (it’s like an email address).

It’s not the best UX so far but it’s a small project that just took off. At least it has more potential already than most competitors.

@LanceUlanoff so basically thanks for writing this article.

It’s helpful to understand why people misunderstand or even dislike a distributed service like this.

Lots of the problems you encounter could be solved by documenting it better or have a clearer user interface, some others probably need more teaching in why distributed systems *are* different to centralized.
