Remember when record companies would flood napster with "fake" mp3s? Anyone got information on this? Or mp3 samples?

@hellocatfood I had a 20 minute noise track I shared on napster that I titled 'Unreleased Britney Spears'.

I never saw what you're asking about, but I think I may have heard rumours.

@celesteh That's the kinda thing I'm talking about.

One I downloaded was No One Knows by QOTSA but it was just one part repeated

@hellocatfood I do have a vague recollection of running into files like that, but also that can be a real failure mode for glitched mp3s. I had to pay for data recovery about a decade ago when a disk died and that happened to a few of my files.

In the case of of my noise track, nobody ever downloaded it at all, probably because the duration was ridiculous.

@hellocatfood If I remember well, Madonna did this. She released a fake version of her latest album at that time where only the first 15 secs or so of each song was available and then cutting to a recorded message of her saying: "don't steal" or something.

@xuv thanks, this is exactly what i was looking for! ( @celesteh take a look )
