Would either alternative scenario lead to more plurality in the music industry? Doubtful. In my humble opinion, it's not Spotify that moves the tethers; it's the way advertising and surveillance capitalism dictate.

Good points, and things definately have to change for artists in the music industry. Misses however the alternate futures were torrenting and P2P would have evolved in par because of the audiences' interest, of the one where music wouldn’t be shareable or accessible due to DRM.
