Well, not really. My grandfather used to use emoticons in physical hand written mail to me when I was a child in the '60's.

@hhardy01 everything we see today is the derivation of language functions.

The growth of this has been amazing. It was a way how we managed to make lifeless papers alive and bow it's on screen. Its amazing isn't it.



The programmer, like the poet, works only slightly removed from pure thought-stuff. He builds his castles in the air, from air, creating by exertion of the imagination...Yet the program construct, unlike the poet's words, is real in the sense that it moves and works, producing visible outputs separately from the construct itself...
